Drupal Basic Training: Build a Drupal Website

Drupal is a powerful way to build a website that provides current information, engages community, and provides a platform for powerful functionality. A knowledgeable Drupal developer can do a lot with a little, but getting started can be daunting.

Advantage Labs has been a full-time Drupal development and hosting firm since 2005, and we're ready to share our tips, tools, and time-saving Drupal techniques with you. Over the course of 4 weekly sessions, you will learn how to create and manage your own Drupal website:

  • Learn when to use Drupal and how a "content managed" site works.
  • Add information such as web pages, news, user profiles.
  • Categorize and extend your information for anything you want: Job postings, case studies, or even podcasts and videos.
  • Allow users to create logins, participate in online discussions, and create their own content.
  • Maintain control over your user's content and activities through a powerful permissions system.
  • Create powerful searches and listings of content, such as events calendars, news feeds, or user profile searches.
  • Reach out to your community through newsletters, automated mailings and viral marketing.
  • Track results through statistics and analytics.
  • Extend your site by finding and installing modules and find out how to select ones that are useful and well-supported.
  • Save costly mistakes by making decisions that work well in the long run.
  • Learn the basics of creating a design that matches your brand and your style.
All in a multi-faceted learning environment:
  • Four 2-hour weekly training sessions in our Minneapolis office conference room
  • Advantage Labs-supplied Drupal sandboxes: your own Drupal website where you can immediately apply the class techniques. These Drupal sandboxes start with our basic install profile, which provides an excellent starting point based on our own best practices.
  • Suggested exercises for you to explore on your own between sessions.
  • Lab time - 4 passes to our regular "Lab Hours": a time to learn and work on your site with access to the Advantage Labs staff and other clients. These are currently scheduled each Wednesday from 4-6 PM, but we may add additional time slots in keeping with demand.
This class is ideal for seasoned web professionals just getting into Drupal, and community managers with existing or upcoming sites. At the end of it all, you will know how to create a content-manage Drupal site complete with functionality that will draw users in, keep them informed, and keep them coming back!
