Friday Lab Report: Drupal 7 themes, audio players and OG relationships

With visions of Thanksgiving meals and family conversations dancing in our heads, we followed the holiday with some serious focus on Drupal at today's Lab Hours session. Diving headlong into Drupal 7 we explored setting up Media for audio files with an associated open source player. We also conceptualized using OG relationships as entities we can add fields to -- we're still getting there but we hope this leads to a flexible way to drive views displays without cluttering up the site with extra content types. Info in the live Lab pad and in the notes below.

We have doughnuts from the Donut Cooperative -- including chocolate banana and vanilla curry glazed.  Something for everyone but I will eat them all if no one shows...

Katie

  • Follow up on Organic Groups structure for conference sponsors
    • We have decided that instead of creating an intermediary content type  (between the event which is a Group and the sponsor which uses the Organization ct) for sponsors, we'll explore adding a field to the relationship between the organization which will be subscrbed to hte group
      • relationship will be called sponsorship and we can type in the level (leaving it text so it can change over time depending on what levels might be called)
  • Views displays
    • Looked at the existing OG view displays and started identifying what displays will be necessary to populate the event front page
      • want to have some displays show up as tabs on the page -- Quicktabs module looks like it can do the job;  see if this is viable and the best way to go

Lindagail

  • Adding audio content with media player to site
    • looked at options using the Media module
    • decided to try Mediafront module which comes with an open source media player made just for Drupal
      • got this most of the way implemented
        • still have some problems with the display that may be fixable
  • Choosing between Drupal 7 themes
    • Adaptive theme with Corolla subtheme will provide the flexibility necessary and keep theming simple, doing most of the work without cracking open any theme files
