Friday Lab Report: Phantom block, front page madness and site search

Photo of Lab participant working hard.

We covered a mixed-bag of issues and ideas today. About half-way through the session, we had a great discussion about site search options. Check out what people were exploring in the Lab Pad transcript below.

Rich -- publichealthpractices.org

  • block showing up where it shouldn't
    • investigated upgrade for potential fallout;  there seem to be some anomalies with the References module fields and associated widgets;  need to test new content to see if the problems are just with existing nodes or persist with new content
    • discovered that References is likely to be deprecated -- since this block is not in use, may wait until replacement module is mature before spending more time on this issue
  • upgrading contrib modules

updating workshop content type
creating views to test content types

  • Great discussion about search functionality (Drupal search vs. Google appliance vs. Google nonprofit engine service vs. Solr) including options for exposing taxonomy indexes and understanding whether and how vocabulary names will appear in search results

Lindagail - lindagail.advantagelabs.com

  • Front page - I'm confused. It's a page, yet it appears as a view, however there are no enabled views. When I go to lindagail.advantagelabs.com, the picture appears below the text. When I click on the title, it appears to the right, which is where I want it to appear, though it would indicate that this is not a page.
    • Go to Site Configuration > System > Site Information and add the URL for the node you wish to be the front page to the Default Front Page setting
  • I want the "read more" to go away, because there is no more text.
    • This will go away when you have a node designated as the front page rather than the default front page view which is listing article teasers
  • I need to work on the css on the child abuse site. I want the background color yellow to just be in the banner. I am using Corolla and Adaptive Theme
    • I had to install footheme subtheme to customize Corolla. Thank you Barry!

maryann - cannot be there - car still being worked on -- so won't be there :-(
http://dev.mnistem.org

  • cannot get images to show in bottom block in each sidebar -  - I've checked to make sure they display but when  it shows the link but not the image (img src)  - it shows in the admin/block view

    <div id="block-block-10" class="block block-block block-10 block-block-10 even block-    without-title">
<div class="block-inner clearfix">
<div class="content clearfix">
<p>
<a target="_blank" href="http://www.mhta.org/" title="Minnesota High Tech Association"></a>
</p>
</div>
</div>
version 7 site, using omega html5

  • Is this a teaser display?  If so, make sure you have the image field showing in the Manage Display settings for the content type.  I can't log in to your site so that's the best I can suggest on first glance...
  • it is a block in the left sidebar - one I made, does not come from any view - all that it has in it is: <p><a title="Minnesota High Tech Association" href="http://www.mhta.org/" target="_blank"><img src="/sites/mnistem.org/files/mhta.jpg" alt="MHTA Logo" style="display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" height="61" width="150"></a></p> (I did not put the "p" tags in, it's doing it to me)
  • oops! just put it in full html and took <p> out and it works?!
  • well it was there and now it disappeared again -- I went back and disabled media module and added the imce wysiwyg bridge, removed <p> from them and it is now working -
  • Now trying to figure out why my header text on view is not showing up when empty like I asked - shows up in the view preview (down at the bottom of the view)
