This Week's Lab Hours

Wednesday's Lab Hours was a lively session. Here's a quick summary of what we covered:

  • Lindagail explored the use Google Sitemap (to increase page ranking) and Google Analytics within Drupal.
  • Kristin worked on determining some strategies to increase the performance of her site in low-bandwidth situations, including the option of allowing users to switch to stripped down themes. Kristin also shared her org's discovery of Google Gadgets' site translation tool (see her related post on this site).
  • Tim questioned why the Print Friendly option was not appearing on certain pages. We were able to determine that the pages not showing the option all have in common the fact that they are "children" pages rendered using the Node Hierarchy module. He's going to dig further with this knowledge.
  • Jake brainstormed with us the best way to implement a film review feature on the tcdailyplanet.net site. We were able to avoid the option of loading a custom review module in favor of creating a "film" content type and enabling both comments and the 5-Star voting module with it.
  • Tammy was troubleshooting a potential problem with using TinyMCE in Internet Explorer. We were unable to replicate the issue and came up with some further troubleshooting questions for her to explore with her client.
  • Kay worked on using exposed filters in a view to provide multiple options within one view page for visitors to identify providers of specific services.
We're looking forward to the next Lab Hours session, Wednesday April 16, 2008 4-6PM with the knowledge that we'll be free of all that pre-tax-day anxiety and ready for Drupal innovation and collaboration (and temps in the 60's?).
