Drupal Tips from Advantage Labs

Statistics, Link Checking, Google Indexing, and More

Hopefully, you know that if you host your Drupal site with Advantage Labs, you have access to AWStats. You can see your Drupal stats by logging into the pajunas management area with the same username and password you use for the Advantege Labs projects area. Your Drupal statisics will include a graphical view of items such as visitor traffic, operating systems, search terms, and page enties and exits. See a demo at: http://www.nltechno.com/awstats/awstats.pl?config=destailleur.fr .

I also found some very interesting information by submitting my site to the Google webmaster tools. There, you can see information such as the pages Google has indexed, search queries with the position found, internal and external links and web crawl errors such as URLs not found and URLs timed out.

It is easy to sign up:

* go to http://www.google.com/webmasters and click on the "sign in" link under "Improve traffic with Google Webmaster Tools"
* put http://yoursitename.com under "sites" and click "add site"
* click on "verify your site"
* under "choose verification method", choose "upload an HTML file"
* in your Drupal website: create a page with the file name they give you (it will look like: google8a52e272777e8bad9.html )
* put the file name in the "URL page settings" (otherwise, it will turn the .html to _html, and Google won't verify that URL)
* in the Google webmaster page, click "verify"
* Google should find the page immediately

NOTE: you will want to do this for BOTH http://yoursitename.com AND http://www.yoursitename.com (ie - with and without the "www") - these URL's ARE different to Google.

Have fun - there is some fasinating information there.
