This week's Lab hours

Last Wednesday's Lab Hours was a busy time. Here's a quick summary of what we covered:

  • Lindagail found a tool for investigating keyword density, and is creating some pages that will help visitors - and the search engines - know what is on her site.
  • Curtis and Lindagail discovered the pros and cons of webforms vs. content types - both have their advantages! Lindagail determined that it will be much easier to create memorial content with a content type instead of a form. That way, she can just click "publish" and the content can be on her site.
  • Steve found ways to create page and block views.
  • Mathew, Tim and Tammy learned all the details about creating a local Drupal environment and using Subversion (SVN) for version control. See Barry's tip: Mac OSX SVN Management Tools for details.
  • Kristin was ecstatic, as she learned how to create a unique front page for her groups - no more river of news! This includes the ability to create a view which selects content for only the view being displayed, so she could show all dialogs for each group with one view. See her tip - Using panels for group homepage!.
  • Kay found that her blocks were misbehaving every time she went into her administrative theme - she discovered that if you have multiple themes, you need to configure the blocks in each.

We're looking forward to the next Lab Hours session, Wednesday April 30, 2008 4-6PM!
